Starting on September 15th, Hispanic Heritage Month is on its way and we are so excited to celebrate! Hispanic Heritage month is our chance to celebrate the traditions and history unique to the Hispanic cultural background. Even if you don’t consider yourself Hispanic, Latino, or Latinx, we hope you’ll take the opportunity to learn about the cultures of the 21 Spanish-speaking countries and territories honored this month. And we’re coming at you with fun activities, celebrations, or low-key ways you and your family can celebrate. Check it out!
SUPPORT HISPANIC INFLUENCERS + BUSINESSES
Whether you’re supporting Hispanic actors/actresses on the big screen or downloading the music of musicians, following influencers’ content is also a great way to support and celebrate this month. You can also support Latina-owned businesses for gorgeous jewelry, makeup, haircare, you name it!
LEARN TO MAKE CLASSIC FOODS
There are so many Hispanic foods to choose from! Try Peruvian lomo saltado, Venezuelan arepas, or El Salvador’s warm pupusas. From everything we’ve tried, you’re in for a treat and may find yourself incorporating these dishes into your daily menus.
TAKE A VIRTUAL TOUR
Did you know you can explore the Pyramids of Mexico or the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil without ever leaving home? There are many virtual reality sites that will help you feel like you’re really there! Or if circumstances allow, go visit these iconic sites in real life so you can learn about + experience their history.
LISTEN TO SPANISH + LATINO PODCASTS
It’s time to search for a Spanish and Latino podcast to learn the language or explore the legacy of Hispanic culture! Podcasts are a great way to entertain yourself AND learn something on the go. This is a great way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month if you’re on a tight schedule.
LEARN ABOUT MEXICAN INDEPENDENCE DAY
Mexican Independence Day is September 16th and marks the day when Miguel Hidalgo y Colstilla delivered a speech that is considered the first declaration of Mexico’s independence from Spain! You can find videos, articles, and books highlighting the importance of this holiday.
While Hispanic Heritage Month is a great way to learn and celebrate the remarkable history and contributions of Hispanic heritage, you really could celebrate all year long!
