Healthy Approaches to Life’s Challenges

The excitement of a new year is in full force and we are here for it! But we haven’t forgotten the ups and downs that life threw at us last year. Some days we felt like we had it all figured out while others were spent dealing with curve balls. This year we want you to know you’re not alone in these feelings and that everyone faces their own challenges. Today we’ve made a list of a few healthy approaches to help you stay centered and remain calm under whatever pressure the new year may or may not bring. Everyone has their own preference for facing challenges so take your pick from the following list!

MAKE A PLAN

Sure, we don’t know what is going to happen in 2023, but we can always plan ahead. This year we’re looking at patterns in our lives to see what challenges we’ve struggled with so far. That way we can gauge realistic outcomes and make a plan on how to reach those outcomes. Depending on where you are in life, you may be able to anticipate the types of challenges you may face (such as being a student or if you have annual projects at work). Then you can plan ahead for how you’ll get through these challenges.

KNOW YOU’RE NOT ALONE

Every single one of us has our low points – some may handle or hide it better than others, but we all experience challenges. Whatever you are going through in the coming year, there are others who have been through it too. You are not alone. As you confront a new challenge in the coming year, speak your feelings and express your concern to those you trust.

ASK FOR HELP + ACCEPT SUPPORT

Since you are not alone, you can find help. This year we’re taking the shame out of asking for help. Whether you turn to a loved one, a mentor, or a friend, there are people who want you to succeed. But asking for help is only one side of the coin – you have to be open and willing to accept that support. Be open to receiving help when you need it. And always remember that those who do show up to support you truly do care about you.

KEEP BIG THOUGHTS

It is way too easy to let ourselves think small, whether it be fear of failure or fear of making decisions. But you have to be open to taking risks to accomplish great things this year. With any challenge that comes your way, always think (and dream) big! That way you’ll achieve more than you could ever imagine.

POSITIVE MINDSET + WORDS

What you think and say out loud becomes your reality. Train yourself to think and speak positively about yourself, your situation, and your body. This will take time and practice, so we’re glad we have all year to figure it out. Once you practice that awareness, you’ll get especially good at acknowledging your thoughts, controlling your tongue, and stopping negativity in their tracks.
