Finding Balance in Home & Work Life

Finding Balance in Home & Work Life - Kortni Jeane

One of the most commonly asked questions I get as a small business owner is, “How do you balance home-work life?” My answer is, balance just really isn’t a thing. That’s what you were looking for right?? I don’t think anyone will ever reach ideal “balance”, but I think we can remember to use our time wisely and live in the moment! So here are some tips and a few pointers I try to keep in mind when work and personal life get a lil crazy.

1. Be present wherever you are and in whatever you are doing.

The main key to this whole “balancing” act is to choose to be present where you are. When I am at work I give my all into work. When I am on a date with my husband I put all my attention into him. When I get together with family and/or friends I make sure I am enjoying that time. We may be spending more time with family then we do focusing on work or vice versa but this will change monthly, weekly, and daily depending on what stage of life you are in. Instead of dwelling on what you didn’t do, what you may have missed, or blaming yourself, let us choose to be content with wherever we are at that moment. Sometimes work will overwhelm us and take the majority of our time.  Sometimes we can choose to ignore our responsibilities in order to spend time with loved ones. I say just be present in the moment or you will always feel you are lacking.

2. Celebrate your victories!

It is human nature to think we are never enough.  It is easy to get caught up in always trying to be better, achieving new goals, and working harder + smarter. We often skip on the achievements and stepping stones we’ve reached because “we can do better.” We should all remember to take a step back to celebrate our victories, big or small! If we saw ourselves years, months, or even just weeks ago we would be so amazed and proud of where we are at now and that deserves more than a high five! Don’t sell yourself short. And it is A-OK to TREAT YO SELF. Remember that!!

3. Move your body

This is something I am learning for myself more recently. I have a hard time making time for myself because like the rest of you reading this, “There just isn’t enough time in the day.” Whether you have to get up early or get away at night, get active and move your body! Exercise is a big stress reducer and often the first thing to go when we don’t feel we have the time. Just like we have to eat, drink, and sleep, we also need to exercise. Not only will your body thank you but your mind will too! Making time for exercising will allow you to accomplish more in your day.

4. Slow and steady

Don’t let all these tips overwhelm you! Start by making small minor changes and slowly build from there. Finding what works for you may differ from me and others. The point is to find what makes you feel more whole, so take it one step at a time till you find your “balance.” Don’t be fooled either. It’s not something you’ll be able to mark off your checklist, it’s something you will always adapt and adjust as your life continually changes. And guess what, we are all right there with you.
xoxo,
Kortni
