Fall Self Care

Fall Self Care - Kortni Jeane
Pumpkin spice everything, sweater weather, and rain boots are just a few of the reasons why fall is easy to love. But transitioning from summer to fall is no joke -- it can be way hard! Not only are we saying goodbye to summer vacations and shortened office hours, we’re also heading into shorter days and busy times! If seasonal changes seem to get you down, you’re not alone! Today we’re coming at you with seasonal self-care ideas that will get you through fall with a smile on your face!
.
Get Natural Sunlight
One of the most difficult changes as we transition to fall is less time in that wonderful sunshine. The good news is that seasonal sadness from less natural sunlight can be helped with light therapy and outdoor activity. As we jump into fall, spend some time outside by going for a walk + jumping in a pile of leaves (who says you can’t play as an adult? Let your inner-child self shine!) You can also sit under a sunlamp if your work schedule keeps you indoors for most of the day. Just make sure you see some light in your day!
Buy Your Favorite Fall Treats
Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, apple spiced cider, or reese’s pumpkins! This is the only time of year for your favorite fall treats! So really savor it and stock up for the next few months! Everyone needs an emergency candy stash and we don’t know how to say no to pie! Allow yourself to indulge in your favorite fall treats and you’ll find you’re happier and more satisfied with the change in season.
Buy Fall Vegetables
Fall is the perfect season for adding the best vegetables to your meal plan. Squash (in all the best forms), cauliflower, sweet potatoes, cabbage and brussels sprouts are all best tasting during fall. So whether you’re eating them as a snack or in a meal, take advantage of the season with these fall veggies.
 .
Take a Weekend Trip
Whether you’re headed to a hotel, airbnb or a good ol’ fashioned bed & breakfast, take a weekend trip this fall! (Honestly, bed & breakfast’s just scream fall.) This season seems like the perfect time to book weekend trips so make it happen this year! Whether you’re going with your significant other, best friend, or sisters, make it a trip to remember and have a blast!
.
Re-Read Your Favorite Books
It’s time to cozy up with a hot drink, fuzzy socks, and the comfiest robe as your dive headfirst into your favorite comfort reads. Grab those well-worn copies of your childhood faves (Harry Potter may be first on our list) and give them a good read this fall season. Or break out those novels that you’ve always wanted to read for a fall to remember.
Binge-Watch Fall Shows
Snuggle up on the couch with some apple cider and get ready to binge-watch shows that put you in the mood for fall! From the dreamy fall town in Gilmore Girls to the overall cozy vibes of This is Us and the high school football days of Friday Night Lights, watch whatever you love! If you’re looking to get a little spooked, Stranger Things or American Horror Story are also great fall go-tos. Gossip Girl, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, and Glee are also great fall shows to binge-watch.
.
Catch Up on Sleep
We don’t know about you but falling back for daylight savings is our favorite way to catch up on our sleep. Take advantage of that extra hour and sleep for seven to nine hours! Make your bed with some fresh sheets, take a nice warm shower/bath beforehand, and slip into bed for the best sleep you’ve had in a long time.
 .
Jump into Your Favorite Workout
We’ve been working out in the beautiful sun this summer so fall is the perfect time to visit your favorite gyms, spin classes, or even YouTube workouts! While we love going full couch potato mode during the chilly seasons, we also can’t resist treating ourselves to our favorite studio classes. But if we’re trying to save money, YouTube yoga or pilates is a great way to go!
Have Some Fall Fun
Dive head first into the activities that are only available during the fall! Visit pumpkin patches, go apple picking, take a hayride, watch football games, attend Oktoberfest events, host a chili cookoff, or take a hike through the beautiful fall foliage. Try new things and have fun!
.
Keep a Gratitude Journal
Buy a journal you’ve had your eye on, a quality pen that gets you excited to write, and set aside 5-10 minutes every day to list three things you’re grateful for. This is a great way to shift your mood away from problems and towards the good things in your life. It takes effort to notice your strengths, blessings, and simple pleasures, but the results are priceless.
.
But don’t stop there! With plenty of ways to practice self-care, do whatever you feel like doing and remember that you don’t have to do them all! Every little thing you do for yourself matters because YOU MATTER! We can’t wait to dive into our fall self care and hope you join us as we make the most of the season.
